(Sk)interview with Isabella Stelle

We asked Isabella Stelle, the nutritionist behind Raw & Roasted, and cook of our first Supper Club at 26 Grains, a few questions about herself.

Can you pinpoint where you got your passion for nutrition?

I was fortunate enough to grow up between the mountains of Switzerland and on a small farm in Eastern Long Island, New York. I think this amazing outdoorsy childhood really connected me to nature, the land and the food we were eating. My family has always loved to cook and since I was a total science geek, nutrition just seemed to slit itself into my life perfectly.

What are your 3 tips for a healthy & balanced diet?

It sounds a bit cliche but the advice to eat a rainbow is really the best. We want to aim for as many plant based colourful foods as possible in our diet and thinking about eating a rainbow really helps. Secondly, I would say the most important thing is to not get too wrapped up in always thinking about food, the perfect diet and being “healthy”. We have to enjoy our lives and worrying about what we’re putting in our bodies at all times isn’t healthy for our mind and even our gut! Lastly, I would say don’t skip meals and honour your hunger. Especially as women it’s crucial that we don’t skip meals to balance our hormones and some days we are simply in need of more fuel than others to energise all amazing things our bodies do for us on a daily basis. Even being able to wake up and get out of bed each morning is a blessing!

What is your go-to healthy snack for busy days?

My go to healthy snacks usually involve nut butters. So a banana with almond butter is a fav. Or I love anything crunchy so some peppers and carrots with tahini. But if I’m really in a rush that day even just a piece of fruit is an amazing option. Especially if I can have a few squares of dark chocolate on the side ;) It’s guaranteed that I’ll always have carrots and dark chocolate in my bag.

Who's your biggest inspiration?

I actually can’t pin point as single person as being my biggest inspiration as I’m constantly being inspired by new people. One of my favourite parts of life is meeting new people and learning what makes them want to jump out of bed in the morning. Honestly anyone with a strong passion and a desire to do good in this world always inspires me. I never want to stop learning and that means never not being newly inspired too!

What is your favourite skincare product ?

I would have to saw my favourite skin care product is either a good essential oil to rub on my temples at night (I’m a sucker for rose, lavender, rosemary or orange blossom) or my RMS beauty shimmers. I don’t really ever wear make up but when I do it always involves some RMS! It may sound a bit hippie but I really believe make up is another thing society throws at us to try and make us all idolise a similar form of beauty. There’s such a beauty in simplicity in life and that’s evident through my skincare regime, but likewise my cooking!
