Bakuchiol 🌸

What is it?

This is the bio-retinoid that is expected to boom in the upcoming year flowers 🌸. Bakuchiol is a natural substance extracted from babchi seeds and is the only plant-based alternative to retinol that has shown similar clinically-proven results👩🏼‍🔬! Unlike classic retinol formulations, bakuchiol is not irritating and can be used safely during pregnancy🤰🏼! Don’t worry, Megan and I still struggle to pronounce it correctly!

Expert Review 🕵🏻‍♀️

What we can learn from this trend is that brands are trying very hard to find natural alternatives to active products and ingredients in order to capture a larger group of consumers👯‍♀️👯‍♀️. In addition, with a rise of sensitised skin due to pollution, sun exposure, lifestyle, and overuse of active products brands are trying more than ever to gap the bridge between sensitivity and “hard working🤓” ingredients.

Skin Moods

Sensitive  Skin

Bakuchiol is the best retinol alternative that you can find for sensitive skin as it does not have the negative side effects often associated with retinol such as dry skin, redness & irritation 🙌🏼. So if you do have sensitive skin, or have experienced irritation with retinol this is worth a try👀.

Pregnancy

When pregnant🤰🏼, it is really important to exclude ingredients that may harm your skin, but also your little baby 👶🏼 . In fact, retinol for example, should be avoided, as it can be harmful to the baby. To be completely honest, there isn’t that much of evidence backing up the usage of bakuchiol for pregnant ladies, but we believe it is completely safe to use while pregnant or breastfeeding 🤱 . That said, we ALWAYS advise double checking with your doctor before using any products while pregnant or breastfeeding 🚨.

Other Skin Moods

For anyone that doesn’t like the negative side effects of retinol 🙋🏼‍♀️, this is a great alternative. It is not photosensitive 😎, meaning that it is safe to use morning and night.

ATTENTION ⚠️

Don’t forget that like all upcoming and ‘new’ ingredients in the beauty market, these ingredients often need time to prove their efficiency and reliability 🕵🏻‍♀️. Stylist Magazine mentioned in “Bakuchiol Skin-Care Benefits: Why you should be using this natural alternative to retinol”  Retinol has over 40 years of clinical trials behind it - ten times that of bakuchiol! So don’t start hating on our beloved retinol...this is just another option
